Julie started out as a starry-eyed 14-year-old in Sydney, sneaking out to attend dances and sing with resident bands including the Joye Boys. She appeared on the first ever "Australia's New Faces" at Channel 9 in Melbourne in February 1964; around the same time, Julie was appearing regularly on Saturday nights at the popular dances held at suburban Melbourne Town Halls (Malvern, Frankston, Moorabbin, Hawthorn). During 1964 she appeared on Channel 9's "Teen Beat" in Brisbane, as well as at Cloudland Ballroom and “Mersey City”, Festival Hall. Julie won the Brisbane heats of "New Faces" in 1969; she has worked with Bobbie and Laurie, Ross D Wylie and the Kodiacs, JOK, Johnny Farnham, Tony Worsley, and David Greenwood. As a result of Julie's win on 'New Faces' she was invited to join the big band 'Sound Syndicate' with whom she performed (during 1970 and 1971) covers music including The Supremes, Otis Reading, and Sergio Mendez & Brazil 66. During all of these years, Julie regularly worked for the well known promoters Ivan Daymon and Keith Lloyd. From the 70's until the mid-80's Julie was absent from the music scene while pursuing a business career and raising her family. During the late 80s, Julie turned to country music but in the 90s, returned to the rock sounds of the 60s. From 1999 to 2002 Julie was female lead vocalist in the local 60's covers band All Shook Up. Julie also featured on Channel 9 Brisbane's 'Brisbane Extra'. Accompanied by her husband on keyboard, and when required - other musicians, and supported by professional backing tracks (complete with vocal and harmony backings), Julie is available for dance parties, private functions, corporate events or public performances. With her slightly husky low voice, Julie can transition from pop to rock and roll and country, across to ballads, putting her own unique style into each song. |
